Buena Vista
The Buena Vista area of West Hartford is blessed to contain a world class aquatic center, a quality ice rink, a 9-hole executive golf course, the West Hartford Art League, public tennis courts and an active property owners association. The association maintains the unique street signs, activities for all age groups to enhance the neighborhood spirit and a welcome committee. Membership is voluntary. The facilities in the Buena Vista area are town owned and managed and open to the public. There are around 400 homes in the Buena Vista area and is a popular location in town.
Cornerstone Aquatics Center is a world class facility and has won numerous national awards in the past. The pools feature a zero-depth ramp making the pools extremely accessible for everyone, a lap pool, wading pool, fitness room, party room and a spa (or hydrotherapy pool). The pool features “underwater” exercise bikes and “underwater” treadmills, a state of the art water treatment system based on drinking water purification technology. It is a truly fantastic facility! Check it out at www.swimcornerstone.com.
The Buena Vista golf course is a 9-hole executive style golf course. You can pretty much leave the driver at home (if you are a big hitter). It is moderately hilly and offers a very relaxed atmosphere. This is a fantastic beginner course. Golf clubs and carts are available for rent and don’t bother calling for tee times. Check out rates and hours at www.golfrockledge.com/buena_vista/.
The West Hartford Art League celebrated their 75th Anniversary in 2009 and is a cherished institution in West Hartford. The Art League occupies the little red school house or “West School” on Farmington Avenue where the road turns into Sedgwick. The Art League also occupies the a 250 year old saltbox building right next to the golf course where they can house their art shows and community events. Read all about it at westhartfordart.org/history/.
Veterans Memorial Ice Skating Rink is a very clean, safe and comfortable rink. Trust us, we know rinks and this is one of the best anywhere. Not too cold, great warming area, free wireless, plenty of public skating sessions, hockey, speed and figure skating. It was recently renovated and is well maintained and a pleasant place to learn to skate. As an added benefit, the Zamboni is battery powered with zero emissions so all the fears about rinks and carbon monoxide are not applicable! You can check it out at www.skatevmsr.com
